How to play Signal Snake

Steer a line around a twenty-by-fourteen board, eat what appears, and never cross yourself.

Your objective

Eat as much as you can before you run out of room.

How a round works

1

1.Choose your walls

Solid walls end the run on contact. Open walls carry you round to the other side. The frame drawn on the board tells you which you picked — solid or dashed.

2

2.Steer, do not stop

The snake moves every tick whether you touch anything or not. You can turn left, right, or carry on; you cannot turn back into your own neck.

3

3.Eat and grow

Every pellet adds a segment and pays 10 × your level. The board does not get any bigger, so every bite is also one more thing in your way.

4

4.Catch the flashing one

Every fifth pellet puts out a bonus worth five ordinary ones. It does not wait — the bar above the board is exactly how long you have.

5

5.Follow your own tail

The tail moves the instant the head does, so the cell it is leaving is safe to enter. That is the move that gets you out of a coil, and it stops working the tick you eat.

Controls

Arrows / WASDTurn the snake. The pad under the screen does the same.
Pause (P)Stop the run. The clock stops with it.

Rules to know

  • The board is twenty cells across and fourteen down.
  • The snake moves every tick and can never stop or reverse.
  • A pellet pays 10 × your level. The bonus pellet pays 50 × your level.
  • The level rises every five pellets, and every level moves the snake faster.
  • With solid walls, touching the edge ends the run. With open walls you reappear on the far side.
  • Crossing your own body ends the run — except the one cell your tail is leaving on that same tick.
  • The server clamps the reported score against how long the run actually lasted and caps the coins a single run can pay. Coins have no cash value.

Useful tips

1Work the outside and leave the middle open. A snake that coils in the centre runs out of exits first.
2Do not chase a bonus across the board. Take it if it is on your way — it is worth five pellets, and dying is worth all of them.
3A higher starting level pays more from the very first bite, but the snake is already quick when you are still short.
4Open walls are not the easy option for long. They take away the edges you were using to stay organised.
